Quondam

Quondam has been touring professional new plays nationally in England for twenty years, bringing high quality work to areas, especially in the north of England, less well served by the artistic community. We concentrate exclusively on new writing and our production style involved live music and song – entertainment with something to say! Our stories touched on the lives of people in the communities that presented our work.

From 2012 onwards our touring goes international, in partnership with Rowan Tree Theatre Company from Selkirk. In summer 2011, Quondam and Rowan Tree began discussions on a potential cross-border partnership, to produce and tour new plays internationally.

These initial discussions focussed on what the two theatre companies had in common:-

• Experience of touring to sparsely populated rural areas
• A passion for new writing
• A production style that integrates live music and text
• A hinterland that is remote from the seat of government
• A constant search for what artistic quality means in the context of where our work is presented

The two companies approached Creative Scotland and Arts Council England to co-fund a pilot project in 2012.
