Quondam’s development projects centre mostly on opportunities for young people. We are currently working with Southfield Technology College in Workington on an application to the Young Roots strand of the Heritage Lottery. This project will give 20 West Cumbrian teenagers the chance to make a drama-documentary film about West Cumbria’s industrial heritage, especially energy production. We’ve called it ‘Past, Present, Future’. Stand on the cliffs above Whitehaven in West Cumbria and face the magnificent pithead building of Haig Pit, which closed in 1986. To your right you can see the towers of Sellafield, whilst to your left out to sea you can see the 60 turbines of the Robin Rigg Wind Farm. The past, present and future from one spot. Quondam’s previous documentary film, by young people from Kirkby Stephen in Cumbria about the magnificent Settle-Carlisle railway, has been exhibited by the Heritage Lottery as an example of best practice.
